How to Prepare Your Social Media for a SummerBreak

The temperature is heating up, the sun is out, and patios are open for business. This can only mean one thing: Summer is almost here!

If you’re as ready to dive head-first into summer as we are, you’ve probably started to think about how your business is going to run while you’re enjoying summer (aka shorter) hours. You’ve got most of your processes in place, but what about your socials?

Racking your brain trying to come up with something when Happy Hour is calling your name? Hard pass.

Desperately trying to post while at the beach? Not so on-brand.

Luckily, you’re able to take a real summer break, without worrying about your socials staying up-to-date, or your followers experiencing crickets from a lack of posting. We’ve put together a few tips and tricks to keep your socials looking as good as ever, and serving your clients, even when enjoying some serious R&R.

Plan and Schedule Content Well in Advance

Friend, it’s time to get your calendar out, and start planning! If you want summer-time freedom from socials, you’ll have to do some spring-time hustling. But don’t worry, it’s not extra work, it’s just shifting your usual content creation timeline ahead! And trust us, Summer you is going to thank us.

Start by referring to your social media strategy (Side note: If you don’t have one, you should definitely call us). Go through strategy, and start listing content ideas that align with your socials’ goals.

Then, it’s time to create, and in this case, we recommend you do some batch creation. We’re such big fans of batch creation, we even wrote a blog on it (hyperlink to blog)!

Once your content is created, schedule it out to your selected platforms. Most platforms offer in-platform scheduling tools, though you might want to invest in a third-party scheduling tool if you are posting content across a number of profiles. Then, sit back, relax, and let your content auto-post throughout the summer without even tapping a screen.

Communicate Your Availability with Clients + Followers

As business owners, it’s easy to fall into the trap of being available 24/7. But it’s 2023, ain’t nobody got time for that.

You deserve to take a break! Just don’t ghost your clients and followers when you do. Let them know if you’ll be away for a while, or if your response time will be longer than normal.

Save yourself the hassle of having to type out the same message dozens of times a day but putting on auto-replies that let people know when you’ll be back, or when they can expect to hear from you.

Create a Crisis Management Plan

Now, we don’t want to pretend that your socials won’t need aaaaany love this summer, especially if there’s some need for #damagecontrol.

Even with the best-laid plans, things can sometimes go off the rails.

But having a crisis management plan in place before something happens makes it easier, quicker, and cheaper to deal with if it does.

Think about how you’ll manage unexpected challenges like posts not landing like they should, platform outages, or even going viral. Each one needs a slightly different approach, so start brainstorming now, before you put your Out of Office on.

Outsource Your Socials

For obvious reasons, this one is our absolute fave, but we also get that outsourcing might look a little bit different based on your business model.

Do you have a junior team member who can monitor your brand’s socials and update you with anything urgent?

Would it be worth hiring a short-term VA to double-check your content updates and reply to VIP messages?

Or, if you want to know your socials are in the best hands possible, you should talk to us. For The Love of Socials offers Done-For-You packages that will let you truly disconnect, while we keep your content fresh and socials running behind the scenes.

Our services included on-brand content creation that perfectly aligns with your business and drives conversions. We take care of copywriting, too, so you don’t have to worry about staring at a blinking cursor when you’d rather be sipping cocktails. We also take care of online community management, analysis, and reporting to make sure your brand continues to grow, even during summer.

Don’t let your business’ social media get in the way of an amazing, one-for-the-record-books kind of summer. Whether you DIY some planning ahead of time or outsource to your new business BFFs, you’re able to keep your social presence strong all summer long.
